Engineering for the operating context of Burkina Faso
Policy and environmental requirements change. These research notes strengthen early planning but do not replace project-specific legal, utility or environmental advice.
01Electricity sectorConfirm the self-generation route under the 2017 energy law
Law No. 014-2017/AN regulates Burkina Faso’s energy sector and allows private and public entities to build and operate generation facilities. ARSE regulates the sector and SONABEL operates the national grid. Authorisation, connection and any sale of surplus power should be confirmed with the relevant bodies before procurement.

02Climate & geographyDesign for heat, Harmattan dust and a short rainy season
Burkina Faso’s Sahelian and Sudanian climate brings high temperatures, dust-laden Harmattan winds in the dry season and concentrated seasonal rainfall. These conditions shape module cleaning, equipment cooling, enclosure ratings, drainage and water availability.

03Commercial & industrial renewablesUse the published guidance for C&I renewable projects
A 2024 GIZ guide sets out how commercial and industrial renewable energy projects are structured in Burkina Faso, including self-generation and the roles of public institutions such as ANEREE, the national renewable energy and energy efficiency agency. Spenomatic tests each concept against measured site demand.

Important: Regulations, tariffs, permit thresholds and utility procedures can change. Confirm the current requirements with the named authority and qualified local professionals before investment or construction.
Evidence discipline
Documented environmental impact in Burkina Faso
Project-specific environmental results for Burkina Faso will be shared as customer-approved performance information becomes available. Spenomatic can assess energy, emissions, water and fuel-saving opportunities for your facility.
Evidence note: Local project performance information is required before a Burkina Faso-specific impact figure can be stated.
